Short, simple poems for our time

My Will

To you Harry, I leave my boyhood dreams
I hope that for you, they will be both wild and sweet
And that a few will come true
As they did for me

And to you Olivia, I bestow my positivity
For the world can be harsh, and full of disappointment
But hang on in there for long enough
And life will begin to shine bright

My bequest to you Peter, is realism
For wishful thinking is of little use
In a time of crisis
So always choose pragmatism over faith

And to you Evelyn, I leave open, my exit door
The one through which to flee
When you have exhausted all available options
And there is no other way forward

And if you are saddened by the unworldliness of my endowment
Then I have failed you as a father
And you must fight like rats in a sack
For what you deem to be, your rightful inheritance
