Short, simple poems for our time
Chicken
When nothing turns out quite the way you'd planned it
And your life just seems to be in disarray
Pay no heed to those who urge you to “hang in there”
Take the cowardly way out, and run away
Shoot the crow........do a bunk
There's no shame in owning up to being a chicken
Leave your troubles at the door
and stop digging down for more
Get as far away from here before you're stricken
When your job prospects evaporate before your very eyes
And your working day just seems to be a grind
When your bosses disregard your best endeavours
And your self-respect is grossly undermined
Bugger off........turn tail
Just accept that you're a yellow-bellied wus
If they're making you feel sickly
Pack your bags and scarper quickly
You're too sensitive to suffer such abuse
If your love-life's run it's course and hit the buffers
Or your children drive you half the way to drink
It's unlikely that you'll ever make it better
So don't worry what they say or what they think
Hit the highway........cut and run
Admit that you're a cowering poltroon
And although it might sound craven
It is better just to cave in
Make a fresh start somewhere else, and bloody soon
If your credit cards are maxed-out to their limits
And the bailiffs come a' knocking at your door
If your credit score has plummeted to zero
And the bank won't lend you money any more
Pull the chocks......bust a move
It'll take too long to pay back, don't you see?
Save yourself the pain and grief
It'll be a huge relief
Be a gutless little cretin and just flee
