Short, simple poems for our time
The Natural Order
Every year they come to the gates
Ragged, tired, and hungry
And join the long queue to be scanned
A few pass through
Deemed to have achieved the required standard
While the rest are returned to their hovels
In the new natural order
For this is the new order of things
The new natural order
And those deemed to be highly developed
Are granted access to civilisation
Where life is sweet and peaceful
And law enforcement is no longer required
In the new natural order
Integrity, morality, and compassion score highly
Greed, vanity, and sloth, much less so
But those who do not possess such high virtues
Have no ladder to climb
For education has been abandoned
And the algorithm cannot be re-written for a thousand years
In the new natural order
For frailty of mind, is no longer tolerated
And true civilisation can only exist
When crime and vice and greed are abolished
But this is no eugenic experiment
For those with retarded development
Will be supported, albeit at subsistence level
In the new natural order
